Nerverland 2.0 Workshop

   
Appreciation
The curtain for the 2012 Asian Smart Living International School fell on October 14th. Thanks to the participation of all members, the program was a great success.

Summary of Events

Day 1 (October 10th)
After the morning opening ceremony, the 2012 Asian Smart Living International School began with a lecture titled Technology Talk, presented by Professor Chih Chen Chao of the Industrial Technology Research Institute of Taiwan, R.O.C. (ITRI). The topic of the talk was Innovation for a Better Future. Professor Chao gave a brief presentation on the development status and results of different technologies in ITRI over the recent years. Immediately following, there was a field trip to Yilan for the international school students to visit Lanyang Museum. Through the comprehensive introduction and guidance of the museum staff, students were given an overall understanding of the human culture and socio-economic development of Yilan. At night, Professor Soe-Tsyr Yuan presented the talk Exploring Complexity in Service Design with the hope of guiding students to find local development value when exploring different sites of the Lanyang Family Cultural Museum over the following few days. Afterwards, the facilitator of the program introduced the next day's three learning sites.

Day 2 (October 11th)
The first stop for the students was Baimi Clog Village. From warming up with clog dancing to touring the Baimi Clog Museum and the village, students not only received a basic understanding of the development of the village, but also learned about the obstacles the village faces. After that tour, the students visited the Jeju Village Community. In addition to visiting the village, students experienced the production of scarecrows with mentors and gained a deeper knowledge of the nature of straw. The third site for the students was Greater Erjie Community where students 
visited Erjie Barn and the Paper Mill, as well as undertook making different types of paper arts.  Later, each group discussed and chose the target community they intended to develop.

Day 3 (October 12th)

After listening to the talk Redesign for Sustainability presented by designer Yu-Jui Chou in the morning, each group set out to their choice of site for a re-visit. In Baimi Clog Village, students of Teams 1 and 4 conducted in-depth interviews with the villagers. Teams 2 and 3 visited Jenju Village Community where they toured on bicycles rode for observation and to experience the community. And after visiting the Erjie Temple, Teams 5 and 6 interviewed many residents of the Greater Erjie Communit. Later, each group arrived at National Ilan University to begin the Neverland 2.0 Workshop of the International School.


Day 4 (October 13th)
With an in-depth understanding of their chosen villages/communities, students made use of the Smart Toolkit to produce the Customer Journey Map in presenting the fieldtrip experience. Under the guidance of the mentors, students listened to the different ideas and perceptions of their teammates while learning different guidance techniques of the mentors. This was a rare and precious experience for all the students.

Day 5 (October 14th)
After a few days of intense learning and discussion, each team was finally able to present their results on the day of presentation. These presentations covered offered such innovations as Team 1's Postcard design, the bicycle route plan by Team 4, and the App designed by Team 6. On this final day, students also shared their results with their chosen site, gaining affirmation of their achievement. We hoped this activity would contribute to the sustainable development of each member of the Lanyang Family Cultural Museums. Finally, the host team conveyed their gratitude for the dedication and effort of all the participating members.
