Day 4-5

Workshop: A Smart Living Neverland 2.0

A Neverland for Education
According to James Barrie, the author of Peter Pan, different Neverlands are found in the minds of all children; some elements and plots are roughly the same, while some are different and personal. It is full of imagination and possibility, and has no limitation in time. Neverland responds to the need in contemporary society which faces a crisis caused by population aging, increased environmental problems, and gaps between technology and humanity. Neverland is an island where there is much beautiful natural scenery, where children never grow up and certainly never get old, and where traditional values will not suffer disruption with the development of scientific and technological progress. Neverland 2.0 induces the discoveries from the previous two days and assists students in developing and delivering innovative proposals responding to the themes covered, aiming to practice redesign as transformation to promote and sustain the development of targeted communities.

The workshop will be structured within the frame of the “double diamond” design process, which includes 4 phases: Discover, Define, Develop, and Deliver. After the first two days of the Discover stage, the other three stages will be coached throughout the workshop as following:

Define
The students will be coached to define and share their findings and discoveries that they collected during days 2-3 and to pitch and prototype their initial ideas for solutions in small groups. The Define stage covers the initial development of project ideas, as well as the components required to solve the problems or issues addressed by each group. A refined design proposal for each topic will be completed and presented at the end of this session.

Develop
In the early development stage, the students will be couched to refine their concepts, which address the problems or issues that were identified during the Discover and Define stages, and to specify their design proposal for further development.

Deliver
In the Deliver stage, the students will deliver and present the concepts of a product, service, or system that could successfully address the problems identified during the Discover stage. Feedback from the participants and lecturers will also be addressed in this session. Advice will be offered for developing the concepts and design proposals of participants into a quality project.
